Church
Vienna architect Heinz Tesar won the invitational tender for the construction of the Catholic church 'Christ, Hope of the World' in the Donau-City. Ever since the 1970ies, Tesar has created numerous places of worship, the most recent one being the Protestant church in Klosterneuburg. Construction commenced in 1999; the Donau-City church was handed over in 2000 and is operated by the Salvatorian Order.
The building was erected as a cruciform structure consisting of cuboids with four upper recessed corners. The dark exterior facade was made from Styrian chromium steel perforated by round apertures following a diagonal grid. The church features a white cross on the outside wall as well as a steel scaffold carrying three church bells standing beside it.
